DIY – Mini Fireplace
We are all staying at home and winter is slowly coming… You really feel like cosy up in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea, and so does our mini mouse family! So we made them an open fireplace from a toilet paper roll and a basket for firewood from an old egg carton and some cotton string.
You need:
- Eggcarton
- Cotton string
- Glue
- Toilet paper roll
- Small round piece of carton
- Black tape
- Black paint
- Scissors
- Electric tea light
- Small branches
How to:
To make the basket, start with cutting out one of the parts of the egg carton, this will be the base of the basket. Cut slits around the sides to create the framework for the basket weaving. Here it is important to have an uneven number to be able to weave back and forward around the basket. We made the base with 7 parts. Secure the cotton string with some glue in the bottom and start weaving around the framework, secure with glue whenever it is needed, this will be transparent when drying so don’t worry if you use a lot. This will only make the basket more sturdy. When you come all the way up to the edge I finished off with making two loops as handles. Let dry over night and fill with small pieces of branches.
To make the fireplace, start with creating the top by tracing around the toilet paper roll to get a perfect circle for the top. Paint it all black and tape the top piece to the roll. Make an opening at the height of the tea light candle with a scissor or a knife and fold open. Place the light source inside. I really hope I don’t have to say…. don’t use a real candle 🙂
