This spring I have been asked a lot about inspiration for birthday parties, so here is some inspiration for an Party Animal themed birthday party which we had when my older daughter Ella turned 3 years old.
I have always tried to keep away from the stereotypes when it comes to girls and birthdays, you know…princesses. So what can be more gender neutral than animals?! We made different kinds of animal balloons, a black cat, a panda, a hippo, a monkey, a tiger and a flamingo. Having mostly girls over for the party, I thought, it is probably best to buy some extra of the pink ones for the flamingo balloons.
The brown monkey balloons were the favorite amongst the kids!
But I guess we set up the stereotypes our selves?! To my big surprise, the flamingo balloons were NOT the favorite, the brown monkey balloons were the absolute favorite amongst the kids!
This is such a simple idea for a birthday party. I buy balloons from the balloon factory where you can buy single balloons in any shade of color you can imagine. This saves money and you can be more free when it comes to the colors and you only buy the amount you need.
If you buy additional balloon sticks you do not have to buy helium, they stand up anyway and its a nice give away when the kids are leaving the party to pick their favorite animal balloon.
For the eyes, ears, wings and other details I just use colored paper which you also can buy singles cheap. I attach the paper details with double sided tape.
Panda & Monkey Cupcakes
For this party I made mini cupcakes instead of a birthday cake. This is a less messy option if you have small kids. For the monkey cupcakes i made chocolate cupcakes with chocolate cream cheese frosting. The panda cupcakes are spongecake with cream cheese frosting.
Monkey: The ears and nose are chocolate buttons. The eyes you can buy readymade where they sell cake decorations.
Panda: The ears, nose and black part around the eyes are black marzipan and the eyes you can buy readymade.
