When it comes to pumpkin carving it´s important to have the right tools. They do not need to be expensive or fancy but you need a tiny saw blade to be able to make the turns. Do not use a normal knife, you will end up hurting yourself or the pumpkin!
Living in Sweden, it has sometimes been challenging to find tools for pumpkin carving but now I found a kit at Panduro, a big craft store here in Sweden.

My kids are still a bit too young to carve their own pumpkins but they can totally help out with picking what design to do, drawing it on the pumpkin and scraping out the inside.
Here are some inspiration sketches. The ghost is probably the easiest and the haunted house the hardest. Get som pen and paper and sketch your own! Think about light and dark, try not to make the hole parts too big but saving some connection points to keep the pumpkin sturdy.
